Smart replacing in Word 2003
It is possible to use Word's search and replace option to add text to the search text. To do this, choose Edit, Replace and, in the Find What box type the text to locate. In the Replace with box type the text to add to the text you're searching for and use ^& to refer to the search text.

For example, to replace Sydney with Sydney, NSW search for Sydney and replace with ^&, NSW

Recolor an image in Word
Many images can be recolored if you select them in your Word document, right click and select Grouping, Ungroup. Now you can click on a part of the image to select it and use the Fill and Line colors on the Drawing toolbar to color that item. When you're done, drag across the shape to select it, right-click and choose Grouping, Regroup.

Laser cartridges
You can get some extra life out of a Laser toner cartridge if you take it out of the machine, shake it from side to side and reinsert it.

Use it or lose it
For inkjet cartridges you'll get better life from your ink cartridges if you use your printer regularly - it sounds counter productive but a used cartridge won't get blocked and will last longer!

Snap an Excel range
Take a picture of an Excel range and insert it in a Word document or Excel worksheet as a picture. First select the area to snap and hold Shift as you open the Edit menu. Choose Copy Picture, select As shown on screen or As shown when printed and click Ok.

You can now paste the image wherever you desire. This technique is handy for printing data from two Excel sheets on the one sheet of paper - something that's notoriously difficult to do otherwise - regardless of the fact that it's a feature we'd all love to have!
